How to Use Reuse for Expats

Welcome to ReuseTogether, a project by Sto.re – Circular Spot designed to help expats in the Czech Republic embrace reuse, reduce waste, and discover practical ways to give new life to everyday items. This initiative was supported by the Ministry of the Environment as part of the Program for Support of Projects of Non-State Non-Profit Organizations 2025 – Sub-program A.

Reuse is not just about saving resources — it’s about:

Why Reuse Matters?

Living sustainably doesn’t have to be difficult — especially when you know where to look and how to get involved.

In the Czech Republic, reuse and furniture-bank initiatives have been growing rapidly, offering alternatives to throwing away perfectly good items. Instead of letting furniture or household goods end up in landfills, reuse points and community events give items a second life and help reduce waste.

#ReuseTogether

Donate Locally

Giving items a second life works best when it happens locally. Instead of throwing things away, you can donate usable furniture, household goods, or DIY materials at nearby reuse points, reuse centres or furniture banks spread across the Czech Republic. These local hubs are part of a growing network of organisations that rescue perfectly good items, keep them out of landfills, and give them a new purpose in someone else’s home.

Locally donated items can be:

#ReuseTogether

sorted, repaired or refurbished,

#ReuseTogether

offered at low cost to others,

#ReuseTogether

reused by people in need,

#ReuseTogether

rediscovered by creative makers and DIY enthusiasts.

#ReuseTogether

Reuse centres and furniture banks don’t just help the environment — they also support the local community by creating affordable options for households, generating opportunities for skill-sharing, and reducing waste at the source. Many of these organisations are members of the Federation of Furniture Banks and Reuse Centres, working together to strengthen reuse practice across the country.

Reuse Points & Where to Start

A ReUse point is a place where usable items get a second life instead of becoming waste. When people bring unwanted but functional items to a collection yard, they can choose to pass them on to a ReUse point. The items are then documented and offered online through the Nevyhazujto.cz platform, where others can reserve them and pick them up within 48 hours. Thanks to this system, furniture and household items return back into use, helping reduce bulky waste and keeping valuable materials in circulation — instead of ending up in incinerators or landfills.
